I'd like to personally welcome you to SUEDE magazine. SUEDE was formed with the goal in mind to be a place for the many personalities, styles, and voices of Penn's minority students to manifest themselves. Like the fabric itself, the minority community is strong and durable, luxurious and multifaceted. Yet, for a community that is so complex and diverse, each of us that is a part of it shares a common feature. We know what it means to be different from the norm.
SUEDE wants to be a publication where we can unite to embrace this through self expression. Our first issue is themed "Under the Surface" and through it, we hope to show what we think, feel, and see underneath it all. I and the SUEDE team have worked extremely hard to get to this point, pouring all our energies, time, love and dedication into fulfilling our dream.
I am so proud of our team and what we've been able to accomplish. And although this is only the first step, it is extremely important. We have started something that we truly believe will not only outlive our time here, but will go on to be a hallmark of Penn's campus.
